Product Overview

We engineered a hydrogel alginate bait that was incorporated with ant pathogenic bacteria (AN_dt1901). Alginates are naturally occurring polysaccharides derived from fast-growing brown seaweeds. The highly absorbent and highly palatable hydrogel beads function as a controlled-release formulation that allows the active ingredient (i.e., microbial insecticides) to be slowly delivered to the target ant species. In addition, the hydrogel baits are biodegradable and hence cause minimal environmental impacts. In future, we also plan to develop new ant baits by incorporating hydrogel beads with different active ingredients.
